At least one state, New Hampshire, has voted to defund Planned Parenthood. When Planned Parenthood was started they had a purpose that went beyond abortions. They supplied women a not so expensive or free place to go for a general gynecology check up, STD testing and birth control. However, times have changed and more clinics offer government funded medical care. The Affordable Care Act now forces people to have some kind of health insurance reducing the need for a government funded Planned Parenthood. It is no longer a pro-life or pro-choice issue, Planned Parenthood is outdated.
When it comes to abortions, the reason so many women resorted to alley ways and wire hangers was not just because they did not want to be pregnant. Back then a single woman pregnant was socially devastating. Families disowned them, tossed them out in the streets or sent them to a convent. Now single mothers and giving one’s child up for adoption is an option and one that does not destroy someone’s life. Single mothers are being helped, not tossed into an alley anymore.
Abortions should still be an option, especially for those who have been raped, molested or dealing with medical issues. But it should not be treated like a manufacturing plant for fetal tissue with women getting five or more abortions within their lifetime and at the expense of the tax payers. Before someone jumps up and says women are not getting multiple abortions, I know women who have.
